PIDCAP Warning Signs Update project
Background
Early diagnosis of Inborn Errors of Immunity (IEIs) has been shown to reduce rates of patient mortality and morbidity, healthcare costs, and improve quality of life for patients.
The PIDCAP project was originally created in the Catalan Health Service to incorporate a built-in alert system to identify patients at high risk of having an IEI and to subsequently trigger a referral to experts for further IEI investigation. It consisted of an expert-based algorithm, developed by both primary care physicians and immunologists, based on extended warning signs (WS) of the original 10 JMF Warning Signs.
Two algorithms were conceived: one for the pediatric population (i.e. younger than 14 years, as defined by the Catalan Health Service) and one for the adult population.
Objectives
The main goal is to develop an international Delphi consensus for the IEI warning signs, based on the expert-driven algorithm already created in Catalonia and scale it up.
Other specific objectives are:
- Evaluate the level of agreement in each WS and its weight in the algorithm.
- Obtain new relevant information to clinical decision making.
- Disseminate the results in a scientific paper that could be later compared to other approaches like AI.
